How websites become more than just websites
Did you know?
A modern business website doesn't have to be just a collection of pages.
With the right combination of CMS, automation, custom forms, e-commerce and custom development, a website can become a complete digital platform designed around the way a business actually works.
For Naoi Tips#04, we're taking a look behind the scenes of one of our recent projects — MY Autorzy™, an independent literary magazine platform that required much more than a standard website.
Rather than focusing only on what visitors see, this article explores some of the systems, automations and custom solutions working behind the scenes.
From 19 CMS collections and 194 fields to 10 custom forms, 14 automations and more than 1,500 lines of Velo/JavaScript, this project is a great example of how a website can be built around the specific needs of a business.
MY Autorzy™ is more than just a new website
MY Autorzy™ is not just a new website. It is an extensive system built using Wix, CMS, Velo, automations and e-commerce solutions, designed from the ground up around the specific requirements of an independent literary magazine.
As the project approaches completion, we wanted to show not only the result visible to readers, but also some of the solutions working behind the scenes.
✅ Content Presentation System
We selected a custom solution based on Wix CMS, allowing different types of content to be efficiently managed and presented — from articles and editorial materials to author biographies and sponsored publications.
The system was designed so that individual elements could be connected, for example linking articles with author biographies, while still maintaining full control over the content structure and SEO of individual pages.
✅ Hybrid Content Management
Not every project requirement could be achieved using standard Wix CMS connections. We therefore implemented a hybrid solution, combining native Wix mechanisms for connecting collections with page elements and our own logic written in Velo.
This allows some data to be managed using standard CMS functionality, while areas where Wix has limitations — such as working with referenced data — can be handled by custom code.
This approach allowed us to maintain the flexibility of the CMS without giving up the convenience of the native Wix tools.
✅ Store & Subscription
We implemented two native Wix solutions for selling products: the Wix Store and Pricing Plans, which is used to manage subscriptions.
Alongside the standard store functionality, we also created a dedicated sales page for the main MY Autorzy™ magazine product.
Its purpose is to guide readers through a simple and intuitive purchasing process.
Readers can choose between:
purchasing the current issue,
purchasing an available back issue,
choosing a monthly subscription,
choosing an annual subscription.
✅ Forms & Submissions
We created 10 separate forms for collecting submissions and information from customers.
Each form has its own display logic, allowing fields to appear or remain hidden depending on the choices made by the user.
This keeps the forms as simple as possible for the person completing them, while still allowing the editorial team to collect exactly the information they need.
✅ CMS – Data Collections
The project uses 19 CMS collections, containing a total of 194 fields of different types — including data fields, logical fields, filtering fields and fields used to create relationships between collections.
The data stored in these collections is connected to page elements and, in many areas, also forms the basis of the logic behind individual website functions.
✅ Dedicated MYadmin Administration Panel
For the website owner and administrators, we created a dedicated MYadmin panel, accessible directly from the front end of the website and protected against unauthorised access.
The panel allows administrators to:
view selected CMS data,
add new records,
edit existing records,
manage selected areas of the website,
without having to work directly inside the Wix dashboard.
This makes day-to-day content management more convenient and accessible for the people responsible for the publication.
✅ Velo – Custom Logic & Automation
The standard capabilities of Wix were not sufficient for every requirement of the project.
Some functionality was therefore developed using Velo, allowing us to create custom logic for the website.
Custom code is responsible, among other things, for handling data connected between collections, custom CMS submissions, the MYadmin administration panel and additional logic controlling selected website elements.
✅ More than 1,500 lines of JavaScript/Velo.
It was the combination of Wix's native capabilities and custom development that allowed us to create solutions specifically adapted to the requirements of MY Autorzy™, without giving up the advantages of the Wix platform.
✅ Automations
We added 14 custom automations, extending the standard automation features available within Wix.
These automations handle, among other things, parts of the contact management process and assigning appropriate CRM labels based on information stored in the CMS.
As a result, some tasks that would previously have required manual work can now happen automatically when data is added or updated.
This is a good example of how automation doesn't always have to be visible to the website visitor — sometimes its biggest benefit is simply making the business owner's everyday work easier.
✅ FAQ – Built for the Future
As part of the final stage of the project, we also added 4 main FAQ categories, which can be connected to selected pages across the website.
The FAQ system was designed to be easily expanded over time, allowing new questions and answers to be added as new user needs arise.

Final Thoughts
MY Autorzy™ is a good example of how a website can evolve into a complete digital platform when its structure is designed around the needs of the business.
Not every project needs this level of custom development — and that's exactly the point.
The right solution is not necessarily the most complicated one. It is the solution that matches the way a business actually operates.
